About Us

wip:sthlm [work in progress] is a collaboration between 96 artists based in Årstaberg, Stockholm. Since the start in 2006, wip:sthlm has grown to include four core activities; wip:ateljéhus (artists’ studios), wip:konsthall (gallery), wip:residence (artist-in-residence) and wip:butiken (bookshop). Together the activities form a complete entity focusing on artistic practice, exchange of ideas and creating new networks.

Our two floors hold 83 artist studios, several specialised workshops, a gallery, a bookshop, a project room and an office. We hope to create a generous environment both for artists and audience working in a large organisation where the artists collaborate for the best possible workspace as well as space for ideas.

Contemporary art is in many aspects without boundaries. Artistic areas expand continuously to include new techniques, methods and artists’ roles. Art of today is a broad field with space to manoeuvre and to use and develop ones competence as an artist. It is a field that differs from society in large when it comes to purpose and goal. One of art's functions is its possibility to be a field where new ideas can be formed and tried out. The competences artists occupy are multifaceted, communicative and often thorough. New ways to relate to art demand new sorts of collaborations and new connections.
